Ask Allen: What Do You Think of the New A.P.C. and Kanye West A/W 14 Collaboration?
Anonymous Asked: What do you think of the new collaboration between A.P.C. and Kanye West?
Answer: Let me start by saying that Kanye West is my guy and I respect what he has done for the culture and the inspiration he’s been for myself and many others. However, I was not impressed at all by the second A.P.C. x Kanye West collaboration. In my opinion this collection does nothing to give any of his recent ideas any credibility, especially after months of him campaigning to anyone who will listen about not being given the opportunity to create something more than just music. Throughout much of the collection all I can see are renditions of some of his favorite pieces. The green parka coat with the fur lining is an interpretation of his Ermanno Scervino coat, the Black long hooded parka coat is inspired by his Rick Owens DRKSHDW coat, the multi-zip jacket is similar to a Balenciaga hoodie he wore several years ago, and the denim shirt is a spin-off of one by Balmain. The counter argument will be every one is inspired by something or someone and nothing is really new under the sun, but when you openly proclaim yourself a creative genius, great expectations come along with that. However, to be fair lets acknowledge that this is still a collaboration which presents obvious limits creatively. And wait to critique his “genius” when he releases his Adidas line in September.
