The rare 7.o3 ct blue Petra diamond sold for a world record price of $9.5 million at Sotheby’s auction in Geneva, Switzerland on May 12th. Sotheby’s claims that this is the highest amount per carat that a gemstone has ever sold for at any auction . The bidding went back and forth between two anonymous bidders until finally a winner was announced. The unknown buyer now has the authority to give the blue diamond a name.
